Druzy SPARKLE!

Have you ever dreamed about digging for gemstones?

The thought crossed my mind tonight so I did a couple of google searches and found this druzy freeform on the Firemountaingems.com site.

It is listed as "Focal amethyst (natural) 33x30mm undrilled freeform crystals with druzy."

The description reads:

"Excavated from mines and natural deposits, geode focal contains a fashionable rough look ideal for wire-wrapping projects. Freeform geode provides natural beauty with miniature crystals hidden inside. Focal will vary in size, shape and color. Mohs hardness 7."

This is so fabulous, it's kind of shocking! How fun would it be to dig something like this out of the ground? Mmm, maybe one day!

I'd love to get your input on this and find out where you get your druzy beads and your experiences with drilled vs. undrilled. Does drilling compromise the crystal in some way?

Thanks in advance for sharing!

That's absolutely droolworthy. I love Druzy!

I got a few from Cool Jewels in Montpelier Vermont, and also from American Science and Surplus in Milwaukee two years ago. I like them undrilled, and they're really easy to wrap because of all those little points -- perfect for those of us who are still shy about wrapping cabochons.

I would love to go hunting for amethyst. I think that would be my dream vacation as long as there was chocolate thrown in!

It seems to be a hot topic as of late. I got a custom order to make something "really special" from a husband to his wife as a Christmas gift. She really swooned over some Druzy earrings she saw on QVC, so off to Etsy I went to find the perfect druzy focal to make a necklace. Of course I needed to order 3 just to make sure! (wink, wink)

Waiting for my package to arrive... Squeeee!

Cool idea, just you, some tools, and the land in front of you to dig.
