What in the world? A bright red heart lock with two little keys? When I saw this in a little drawer while visiting a local art studio/paper/stamping/book binding/decopauging store called European Papers, I wanted it pretty bad.
It is very light weight so it actually could be used in a piece of jewelry. :) The inspiration has not yet struck, but I love looking at it and playing with it. What does that mean?
I also bought a really tiny deck of playing cards. No clue why, but after digging in a treasure chest for a huge baggie of plastic beads, I was no longer using my conscious mind, I was just allowing myself to have what I wanted.
No harm done really, less than $15 spent all told, including all the plastic magic wands that have now been distributed to various friends.
I'd love to hear your ideas on using this actual working lock in a jewelry piece!! :) Have a great evening!

The first thing that came to mind was to use it as a clasp. Like glue the key into the lock so that it wouldn't get lost and you can turn the key to open the clasp... but eh. I dunno. I'm hopped up on allergy medicine so that might not be the best idea :P
Oooh, I like Rose's idea of using it as a clasp. Maybe in the front, but I wonder how it would lay...if it would turn sideways. Hmmm. I think I'd just have to keep it on my desk to play with throughout the day :)
Using it as a clasp sounds like a good idea.
Maybe use it as a lock for a beadwoven amulet bag or a locket. To keep curious eyes from seeing what's inside.
Or do you know the Celtic claddagh (?) symbol? A heart held by two hands.
Or find some wings and make a winged heart focal piece out of it.
Or simply as a charm for a charm bracelet.
Errr, want more ideas? :-)
If it's really, really lightweight, why not the lock as one earring, and the keys as the other? Or am I just way too out there! :)
This is really cute. So much fun to find all those treasures! I think it would be fun on a chunky charm necklace.
Wow, you guys are so creative! What COOL ideas!!! :)
I do love those magic finds.
I have used little locks like this as clasps. But I think that this deserves to be front and center. At the bottom of a long necklace, holding other charms locked up. Maybe a mini journal and pen...like a little diary under lock and key!
Great find!
Enjoy the day!

Definitely a clasp, but it needs to be in the front or on the side!
Why not use it as a lariat and hang the key in the tassel at the bottom LOL I love these idea jams!!!
I like the Lariat idea, the lock on one end and the keys on the other.... you got a lot to think about....
My style of making is to always include as many not-intended-for-jewelry bits as I can. Tiny things are so enchanting.
I think you should glue the mini cards to scrap metal and pour resin on top. They are also lovely gift tags, tucked under whatever string you tie a package with.
Oh, and the lariat and/or clasp are awesome ideas b/c then it's not just decorative but also functional, which emphasizes the functional nature of the lock and it's purpose! (I'm so deep).
