Super Purply Stones

I have never seen stones this purple! There is an element of fun in them because of their purpliness. When I posted the cherry quartz yesterday, Doina (of D's Poetry) thought they would make a fun, BIG ring. Now that I have that in my mind, I think one of these bright purply stones would make a fun "giant" ring and one would be cute as a focal bead in a matching bracelet.

I searched around a bit to find out what type of stones these are and the only possibility I could find was Charoite, but I'm not yet convinced. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you are familiar with this purple stone!

The bright purple would look great with some bright silver accents!

Could they be amethyst? I love purple stones mixed with the green ones.

you had me at super purply! i have seen amethyst this color and also with inclusions, charoite but never been lucky enuff to see charoite so clear and w/o the white inclusions. i have seen fluorite this deep, and once sugilite.

wouldn't it be awesome if it was tanzanite!!!!!!

It is hard to tell how transparent the stones are from the photo - but first thought was Amethyst. Amethyst (the dream stone) has a transparency to it, though, so the next possibility, especially if there is a large amount of black imbedded, and there is no transparency involved - is indeed Charoite. Sugilite in that large a form is VERY RARE and is very solidly deep purple. The only other possibility would be a dyed Agate. Hope this helps. Before I became a bead store owner - I managed a New Age bookstore for 6 years - semi precious stones were (and still are) my specialty!

I would say amethyst. I bought two strands recently from the palest lilac to the rich purple which yours are, inclusions and all.

Thanks so much for all the input!! I'd LOVE to think my gemstone mix from Hobby Lobby had a rare stone in it, very cool!

I would definitely say amethyst as well. Those are just beautiful!

It's probably a low grade amethyst, but other possibilities are dyed agate or dyed jade or sugilite.

First I'd say amthyst. But yes, it could be something dyed. But beautiful purple!
