Wood Chips

Hmm, I'm not sure these should actually be called wood chips, maybe more like wood slices!

These came on a 16" strand at the craft store. I couldn't resist them because of their unusual qualities, but I honestly have no idea how to use them in a fun jewelry piece.

This might have to be a weekend project. I wanted to shout out to all of you for ideas. The stringing hole is pretty close to being in the middle on each one of the chips.

Please share ideas if you've got them :)

hehehe .. can't help you. I have some of those in a darker wood that I've been stumped on for a while now..I was going to use them in some kits for my next challenge on my blog and see what everyone else comes up with ;)

Hmmmm, they look like something to eat. They call them bread chips over here. ;-)

hmmmmm What if you did an earthy rope that when (two pieces) they met in the front, both sides split into two pieces for the front and two for the back, joined through the hole in the middle. That would hold it in place so it wasn't flapping around, add then you could embellish the front pieces to get some texture, maybe some leave beads? They might be hard to wear beaded sideways! LOL

When I look at these, they are begging to be the back or the base. Stack a large stone, maybe a gemstone donut, or a big filigree piece, then on top of that other stones. Using wire, you can wire the stacked pieces together, then run the wire through that center hole and secure it. Fabulous Pendant!!

take a decorative napkin and glue on it and coat with resin.

I have some beads like this. I used them to make a necklace. The ones that I had were dark brown and went well with some amber beads.

I don't have a photo and am reluctant to try to describe the design to you in words because I think that I will do a bad job of that! I have asked the person to whom I gave the necklace to email me a photo of it so that I may show it to you.

In the mean time, I will ATTEMPT to show you the main idea. I'm linking you to a picture of some blue beads with a metal one. Imagine the wooden beads that you and I have in place of the blue ones. I used the wooden ones as little walls on either side of feature beads (my feature beads were amber but you might want to use something else that would complement that colour of your wooden ones better).

I didn't line up the wooden beads next to each other all in a long row like the blue beads are, though; so, just ignore that aspect of this picture: http://image0-rubylane.s3.amazonaws.com/shops/743471/NCx20-x20104.1L.jpg .

Again, I used the wooden beads in a similar way to how the clear flower beads have been used in this picture (although, I also managed to make the bead cord form a 7cm x 3cm rectangle at the base of the necklace): http://lottiestrinkets.squarespace.com/storage/silver-necklaces/FestiveAmber_1.JPG?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1336860683879.
