A Bead Tribute!

I have been waiting until it felt like the right time to mention this here. I hope you don't mind, but I consider you all friends and family!

While looking for beads over the
weekend, I came back across this doggie bead and think I'm ready to make something as a tribute.

It has been about a month since we have had to say goodbye to our sweet angel, Comet.

He was such a sweet and funny soul that we are better people for having known and cared for him as our furry poodle child for 12 years. He came into our lives when he was about 4 years old after being rescued from living on the street and in pretty bad shape. I knew the minute I saw him and opened the cage at the shelter that he was meant for me! :)

I visited him as much as I could (telling my husband I was going to K-mart, which happened to be across the street from the shelter...not a complete fib). Once adopted, it didn't take long for my husband to warm up to him and love him. He made it easy! After that, he referred to him as
a diamond in the rough.

Comet and his bichon "brother"(also 16) were tormenting each other and loving each other right up to the end. Even though Comet had lost his vision due to either diabetes or a previous stroke as well as his hearing, he would still work on one-upping Rudy. Actually because the weather had been so cold, we would often come home and find them both in the same large dog bed. Awww! They definitely considered each other siblings!

I am not sharing to make anyone sad, I just wanted to share something good and sweet like the bond you can have with a pet who has the ability to fill your life to the brim. Finding this bead seemed like perfect timing! Part of the acceptance process :)

I'm thinking of finding a long chain or maybe even a ribbon...hmmm... to hang this on as a long
pendant. Not sure yet, but am open to ideas!! Please share, but please don't be sad. Just take a moment to hug your furry ones if you got 'em! :)

How wonderful to have a bead to remind you of your lovely dog.

I know just how you feel, losing a dog is heart-wrenching. We have our fourth standard poodle and each time we have to say goodbye it is awful. Luckily the happy memories (and photos) make it easier to bear.

As someone once said, dogs are always joy and sorrow, but mostly joy.

You may like to see this blog from time to time - not mine, but one I read. It's beautiful.

Lisa that is one of the most adorable beads I've seen & how perfect to make a tribute to Comet with it. Too bad you don't have any fur around to make some felted Comet balls to use to embellish the necklace.

I do know how you feel. You get sad, but at the same time you have to acknowledge that for that very short time they loved you so much as you did them. I see my Fiona who will be 11 in April, blind & sometimes showing signs of dog dementia, but she still loves to greet me every morning & on my days off will sit sleeping next to me for hours. I miss every single one of my other Scotties & our two cats. Heck, I even miss my gerbil from college days.

I AM going to give my three Scotties lots of love today in memory of Comet.

Lisa,
So glad you shared Comet's story. I really love that pup bead, it really looks like comet too! I like making charm bracelets, a lot. And immediately thought your bead along with other precious memento/symbols on a unique bracelet. I am sure whatever you make will be beautiful and a precious reminder of a very special friend.
Sending hugs your way,
Donna

Lisa, What a loving and positive tribute to Comet. I'm sure he knew he was a lucky dog.
I'm off to give my Frau Holle (Miniature Schnauzer) a little cuddle. :)
I can't wait to see what you decide to do with your bead.

I had to euthanize my cat Becky last month. She had cancer, we took her in abut six years ago when her elderly owner died. We didn't know her age, probably about 12. For a long time, she was like a stepchild, but over the years, she became part of the family.
I hope I eventually come to peace about it, she was still so happy but we didn't want her to suffer.

That bead is a great memorial to Comet. I'm so sorry for your loss.

We lost our 2 black cats in Oct. and Dec., 1 after 20 years (even as a kitten). I think of them often.

We had to get a new black cat, Fritz and also rescued Sammy (orange tabby) to ease the holes in our hearts.

So now, we have 3 boys who play and sleep together.

Show us the piece once you finish it.

I think a jewelry tribute to your puppy is an awesome thing. I recently acquired yet another unwanted and unloved puppy. Well, she's not really a "puppy" anymore, she's about a year old, but in our house they will always be "puppies". That makes 3 that my husband and I have taken in in the past 3 years. I think they make the best dogs. They seem to realize that you were willing to give them a second chance (or third or fourth in some instances) when no one else was willing to do so.

Was a sweet way to remember your companion. It is never easy to say goodbye to them, but you never have to say goodbye to the memories. You gave him a wonderful second chance!!!

Lisa--I'm late and catching up on my blogs again. Students keep me busy. I do know what you mean--it's not to make anyone sad because pets are very special--especially those who are rescued. As you know, we rescue cats and manage a feral colony. It's hard to lose one but the richness that they left in our lives helps the memories stay strong. Bless you.
