Vintage Button Look

I couldn't help but throw in one more cool button to talk about making a ring out of! During our recent craft night, one of our crafters used this one. All it takes is trimming off the button shank with a wire cutter, a little hot glue and a ring form!!

It's such a gorgeous button and turned into a fabulous ring! It's not vintage, but to me feels like it is. It is the perfect size to slightly cover the fingers to the left and right of the ring finger which is a look I love, especially when you are wearing a hand-crafted button ring! It does NOT looks like it came out of an arts&crafts night!

If only I had one of those heat tools for attaching crystals, this could use just a TINY bit of extra sparkle! I'd love to see your button ring projects if you are interested in sharing! :)

And now, it's time for tonight's BLOG GRATITUDE list!! Over the next couple of weeks, I will be thanking bunches of fun, fabulous and talented artists/bloggers by sharing links to their blogs, websites or etsy sites. This is what blogging is all about...sharing connections!

The button is gorgeous. I've got a stack of buttons I scoured the thrift shops for so I might try making a few rings with them.

Buttons are so versatile, cutting off the shank. I use them often in bead embroidery as cabs to have a center point to start from.
BTW, do button earrings qualify for your request, too?
You chose some great artists for the first round!

I love to make things out of buttons. I have been on a button magnet kick lately as I am redoing 2 metal filing cabinets I picked up for free.
I wanted to tell you I have a heat tool and yes it heats the glue on the crystals but they don't stay on very well. I use a dab of e6000. Much better holding power.

I had been thinking about cutting off button shanks. Is it difficult to do? Are you just using a basic flush cutter?

I have used old scissors before and heavy wire cutters. I'd worry about messing up my good cutters. It depends on the shank style and material. Hope that helps!

I wish I had a good button-hunting place close to home! I think I'd do more fun projects like that if I could find and discover some really unique pieces to work with.

Thank you so much for adding my blog to your list - you've totally made my week!

Hi guys! I did use my regular wire cutters to remove the button shanks. If you have a heavier wire cutter from the tool shed, that might be your better bet. In most cases, the shank has been plastic. I had one that was a soft metal and it came off easier than the plastic. I think I might have to get one of those crystal heat tools and some E6000 :)
